The Agerola itinerary has an unforgettable flavor, that of the typical products of a land that still today offers the genuine products of a tradition that becomes history. As you ascend towards the hilly slope of the Lattari Mountains, at the foot of which Agerola lies in the shape of a horseshoe, you can appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the town, especially the viewpoints, two of which are located in the San Lazzaro area, and the third in the Bomerano area.
The recommended Agerola trails, as part of the “Path of the Gods,” offer breathtaking views in contact with nature. However, it is the scents and flavors of the local gastronomic specialties that entice visitors to extend their stay and learn about traditions born from an ancient popular culture. Agerola is inextricably linked to Fiordilatte and Aged Provolone, a combination that takes on the value of tradition, especially when the product is a culinary specialty that speaks of genuine goodness. White as milk, declaring its origin by its color, with the right amount of consistency, delicate and fresh in taste, Agerola’s fiordilatte takes on new nobility when produced with milk from the prized Agerola breed, the result of a livestock selection that provides milk of exceptional quality.
A jewel of the Lattari Mountains, Agerola stands out for its production with still artisanal characteristics, a guarantee of the authenticity and goodness of a fiordilatte to be savored. Excellence is reached in the production of the prized Aged Provolone, a niche product made in limited quantities. Its demand by a knowledgeable audience has led to an increase in the Agerola cattle breed, as the milk used for Provolone must come, at least 20%, from Agerola cows.
