La Ginestra

The ginestra is the yellow broom flower that holds the slopes of Vesuvius together in summer — the one Leopardi wrote about, looking at it from around here. The house took its name, and its colour: the yellow wall of the main bedroom, and the blue facing it.

It is the largest of the three. Two separate bedrooms — not one split in half — plus the sofa bed in the living room: six people fit without spending the whole week in each other’s way. It’s the right house for two families travelling together, or a group of friends.

It opens onto the citrus courtyard, where breakfast happens in the morning and a bottle gets opened in the evening. The ruins of Pompeii are ten minutes away by car: leave early and you’re at the gate before the tour groups.
